Horned Leaf kratom receives its name from the unique leaf shape. This strain of kratom comes from the same Mitragyna speciosa tree that all kratom comes from. However, this particular type contains a unique morphology that only occurs after the tree itself has peaked in maturity. Due to the unique aging process, the leaves begin to have a curl that provides them the name. This can take more than a year for it to reach this point, which contributes to its rarity. 

Horned Leaf kratom is grown across Southeast Asia similar to all kratom plants. It was first discovered in Thailand and Indonesia but has spread across the region. It is known and distinct for its three-pointed or “horned” tips on the leaves. The tropical climate with high humidity and frequent rainfall allows it to grow steadily and reach the peak age needed.

Horned leaf kratom is available in three different strains: Red Horned Kratom, Green Horned Kratom, or White Horned Kratom. These three different strains all possess horned traits of the aged leaves with differences in when they are harvested.

Green Horned Kratom is harvested at the midpoint of the lifecycle. Having an aroma described as “fresh cut grass”, this offers a median point for the red and white strains. This strain has features from the red and white strains of horned kratom and is a popular choice. 

White Horned Kratom is the final strain of horned kratom that is harvested at the earliest point in the leaves’ lifecycle. It is considered a lower alkaloid content than the red or green but is still very potent due to the maturity of the horned leaves.
